At Bethlehem Community Church in Delmar, NY, serving is not a sign-up sheet. It's an outflow of being part of a family. Since church is home and the people around you are family, you participate in the planning, the preparation, and the presentation of the meal, not like a restaurant where you sit down and get served, but like a home where everyone has a hand in it.

There is no such thing as a non-serving Christian. We serve because Christ served us, and he has called us to serve one another in the same way.

Why we help

We don't serve because the pastor asked from the pulpit. We serve because it's God's prompt on our hearts, a response to obedience and submission to the Lord. When we stop thinking about ourselves and start thinking about others as greater than ourselves, that is the whole point. Serving is how faith moves from something you believe to something you live.

Three ways to get your hands in

Serving at BCC happens in three places. Some people use the gifts God gave them in their trade. Some serve the people around them. And some step into the weekly rhythm of church life where things need to get done.

Use What God Gave You

If you're in the trades, in finance, in organization, or anywhere in between, there's a place to put those skills to work. From plumbing to bookkeeping, maintaining this church takes real people with real gifts.

Serve the People Around You

Prepare a meal for a family in need. Drive someone to a doctor's appointment. Show up to a community event and set up chairs. This is the kind of serving that looks like family.

The weekly rhythm of church life runs on volunteers. Pick the area that fits your gifts and your time, and jump in.

A church built on prayer

Prayer is not something we add to what we do. It is what we do. Every Sunday begins in prayer. Every need that's brought to us is covered in prayer. Every decision the church makes is bathed in prayer. We say it clearly and we mean it: BCC is a church of prayer, first and foremost.
A team of over 30 elders, leaders, and members prays intentionally over every request that comes in. Your request goes out to the church family through a weekly prayer email so the whole body can lift you up. If it's sensitive, you can mark it private or for elders only.

Prayer After Every Service

After every Sunday service, Pastor Geoff and the elders are available at the front to pray with you personally. If you ask, the elders will gather, anoint, and pray over you together. You can also request time at a Wednesday elder meeting for prayer in a smaller, more private setting.

Where you fit

Every team at Bethlehem Community Church needs people who are willing to show up and serve consistently. Here's where you can plug in.

Worship and Tech

Help lead the church in worship through music, sound, video, or live stream production. If you have a gift for it, there's a mic or a mixing board with your name on it.

Guest Services

Be the first handshake and the first smile someone gets on a Sunday morning. Greeters, ushers, welcome desk, and security all fall here.

Kids and Students

Teach, lead, and care for children and students on Sunday mornings, at KPNO, or during special events. Background checks and training are part of the process.

Care and Prayer

Join the prayer team, visit someone who's homebound, prepare meals through Meal Train, or serve alongside the elders in caring for the body.

Classes and Groups

Lead or co-lead a Bible study, facilitate a small group, or help organize and support group life throughout the week.

Events and Meals

Shop, prep, cook, set up, serve, and clean up. BCC loves to eat, and every meal and event needs a team behind it.

Teaching and Leadership

Teach the Word in its various forms and contexts. Women's groups, men's studies, Sunday Bible classes, and elder-level leadership all live here.

Childcare

Provide childcare during church events so that every parent in the church can participate. This team makes everything else possible.

Serving beyond our walls

Some of the best opportunities to serve happen outside the building. These are seasonal and community-focused events where the whole church shows up together.

Easter Celebration

A community-oriented Easter gathering with worship, food, and family activities. Volunteers needed for setup, hospitality, kids' activities, and cleanup.

Christmas Events

From the Christmas dinner to the Candlelight Eve service, the season takes a full team to pull off. There's a place for you in it.

Harvest Fest

A fall community event with food, games, and fun for the whole family. Serving roles span everything from setup to greeting to teardown.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes

Partner with FCA to serve students and athletes in the Bethlehem area schools. Contact us and we'll connect you with the team.

Go further

BCC partners with 10 missions organizations locally and around the world. Our missions team manages those relationships, coordinates short-term trips that are carefully vetted, and connects you directly with the people doing the work on the ground. Pastor Geoff has served internationally with our partner church in India, and opportunities to go are open to anyone who's called. What's coming up

Seasonal work days

Four times a year, one for each season, BCC holds a Saturday work day from 9:00 AM to noon. The task list covers cleaning, organizing, building maintenance, and prepping spaces like children's classrooms. No skills required. Just show up ready to work.
